How Long Should Your Shower Install Take?

Video Transcript:

Are you thinking about a walk-in shower remodel, but dreading how long your bathroom will be out of commission? We're about to break down exactly how long these projects really take, and I'll share our secrets that could finish your project in as little as one day.

Hi, I'm Shane, Content Manager at ZINTEX Remodeling. At ZINTEX, we've upgraded thousands of showers across the United States. And it's no secret to us that homeowners aren't thrilled to turn their homes into construction sites. While there's no sure answer to the question of walk-in shower remodel timelines, we've mastered the art of providing estimates and what can impact your timelines so you can schedule your bathroom upgrades wisely. After a consultation with the sales representative, the vast majority of your timeline will be spent waiting for the materials to arrive so your contractors can begin. During the consultation, you'll assess the current state of your bathroom and check for any visible problems that would delay your project.

*Note that there might be damage to your plumbing or mold under your current shower base that we won't be able to see until the old shower or tub is removed.

You'll then be given a lead time. This is typically anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, although lead times can be even shorter if the products you order are already in stock with your contractor. Your lead time is over, and now you're giving control of your bathroom over to the professionals.

How long will it take them to demolish your old tub or shower, install the new one, and clean it up?

Materials are a big factor in the timeline of your project. In today's market, there are three main materials for a walk-in shower. Acrylic, tile, and solid surface stone. In most cases, an acrylic or solid surface shower can take as little as 1 to two days from demo to cleanup, while tile averages anywhere from 3 to 7 days. Tile needs time to cure and harden, leaving your bathroom out of commission for longer than the typical 1-day install for an acrylic or solid surface shower.

*Note that when your walk-in shower is done with ZINTEX, we tell homeowners to wait 24 hours to ensure your new system is fully settled and ready to be used.

Another factor can be the contractor you choose. Unfortunately, there are contractors out there that leave homeowners out to dry. They might tell you they'll get started with demolition by a certain date or complete the project within a set amount of time only to disappear for weeks on end.

How can you avoid these nightmare scenarios?

Do your best to vet your contractors before you sign any contracts. Take a moment to find out more about their professional experience and read reviews from previous customers to make sure that the company you choose has a strong track record. At the end of the day, your sales representative will do their best to assess the scope of your remodel project based on what they're able to see before demolition begins. However, your contractor won't know exactly what they're up against until they expose things like your plumbing and support beams during the demolition. Once again, this is where professional experience matters. An experienced bathroom remodeler won't be stumped by outdated plumbing or rotting wood. They may just need a few extra hours to make sure you're getting the best walk-in shower upgrade possible.

Now you know how long your walk-in shower will likely take to complete. What's next?

At ZINTEX Remodeling, we specialize in acrylic showers, transforming bathrooms in as little as 24 hours. If you want to find out if acrylic shower walls are right for you, you can watch these videos. ZINTEX Remodeling - Enhancing lives, one remodel at a time. [Music]
